Microsoft utilises HTML5 as the core element in IE9
Microsoft is ademant that the release of their new browser Internet Explorer 9 next year will revitalise its internet browser's market share, which has recently fallen from 90 per cent down to around 60!
According to the senior director of Internet Explorer, Ryan Gavin – the success of this new browser will be down to its integration of HTML5.
"The future for IE is as bright as it's been any time over the past five years," he told the guardian. "IE8 is the fastest-growing browser in history: it's the number one browser on Windows, and the number one across all OSs. The simple truth comes down to: every single day, more users are choosing Internet Explorer 8 than any other modern browser out there."
He went on to show a preview of the browser, which with the demos he used made Google Chrome look like something from the dial up era in terms of speed, as IE9 makes use of the PC's graphics processor to improve efficiency.
The constant evolution of the web and the performance needed to view modern websites is also being touted as the reason for the poor performance of the outdated Internet Explorer 6 Browser - though many companies are still using the browser due to its compatibility with Windows XP and the fact that it comes as standard with the operating system.
With the fact that Internet Explorer 9 will not be supported on Windows XP, Microsoft is taking a massive gamble that more users will be upgrading their systems to Windows 7 in the near future.
"IE6 was built for a very different web at a very different time," Ryan said.
"A modern web does require a modern browser. My aim is to get IE6's market share to zero as fast as humanly possible. That's good for the web, good for developers, and good for us."
So far the preview version of the new IE9 browser has been downloaded more than 1 million times since its launch back in March.
